Training at CSW

The auction horses are prepared by a specially-trained team of young, talented riders.

So what makes Classical Sales Warendorf so special?

Part of our philosophy is to train the horses, according to their age and physical development, over a long period of time and under our daily supervision and guidance: the team of riders is led by the successful trainer Susanne Miesner. An individual training plan is designed for each horse, according to his specific requirements.

Throughout the daily instruction and training, particular emphasis is placed on the criteria of classical riding and on the teachings of Old Masters. We see the 'Remonte' school of the 1930s as our role model. Our explicit aim is to have horses who are relaxed, happy and balanced.

The back is the generator of the horse's movement. Only when the back is relaxed, supple, and works under the rider's weight can a horse move rhythmically and with impulsion in all three basic paces:
In walk, the purity of the four-beat rhythm is preserved. The horse therefore starts to overtrack;
In trot, the alternate diagonal treading is preserved and the horse can step, relaxed and engaged, under his centre of gravity;
In canter, the horse clearly demonstrates a three-beat rhythm from a supple back without leaning on the rider's hand.

A horse working with relaxation and engagement through the back also allows his rider to have a better seat and carries the rider in his movement. Through patient, systematic training he will smoothly accept the rider's subtle aids and will become a comfortable, relaxed horse.

These criteria are the fundamentals for the sport of dressage. Young horses who have experienced a systematic training following classical principles are often happier and therefore more willing to perform. Above all, though, classically-inspired training paves the way for a strong mind and good health.

With immense respect for the creature which is the horse, we offer young horses the chance of a great upbringing – the best basis for the challenges ahead.
